CONSTRUCTION DAY TRIP Our DT students had a fantastic time on their Construction Day trip this week! They participated in activities including road marking, block paving, structural engineering, electrical installation and teambuilding, all led by employers and training providers in the construction industry. They got involved with hands-on activities and had many opportunities to talk to experts in a wide range of careers, helping them to think about their future aspirations.

SIXTH FORM TEAM BUILDING On Monday, our Sixth Formers enjoyed a team building trip to Jump Inc. Everyone got involved (even the teachers!) and had a great day! One of the many perks about studying at SWRA Sixth Form is that we are able to provide amazing opportunities like this!

SWRA's production of Little Shop Of Horrors is underway....we revealed the cast today for our Lead Cast. Full Cast List will be on the Front Doors of Dixon 1st thing on Monday for all to see! Wow! The cast are amazing....we are so proud of everyone who auditioned!! Get Involved! (If anyone missed out on auditions, come and talk to Miss Burrough or Miss Scorror - there's still time! )

BRITISH ARMY VISIT This week, we had an exciting visit from the British Army. Our Year 9 students attended a presentation about careers in the Army and then took part in a series of engaging workshops which focused on teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to challenge themselves, develop their soft skills and gain an insight into what it's like to work in the military. A huge thank you to the British Army for an inspiring and educational experience!

CHATEAU DE WARSY TRIP Last week, our Year 10, 11 and 13 students had an unforgettable experience on their French immersion trip to Château de Warsy! The students were fantastic, showing great behaviour throughout the week. Highlights included making delicious crêpes and mayonnaise, playing pétanque, and visiting an organic goat farm. We also explored the historic city of Amiens and had a magical day at Disneyland! It was an incredible opportunity for everyone to immerse themselves in French culture, language, and adventure!

QUADCOPTER BUILD AND FLY DAY A great day was had yesterday by Harry, Alfie and Michael at the 'Quadcopter build and fly day' hosted by KSHS. Quadcopter is a national competition sponsored by Ratheon and RTX. The boys had to get through an interview/presentation process in Stage 1 to be able to attend yesterday's event. They built their quadcopter and completed a test flight yesterday very well. We now move into Stage 3, modifying and practice flights, ready for the regional final in the beginning of November.

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD IN LEARNING STRATEGIES EVENING As a setting we have endeavoured to follow best practice and research in all aspects of education and have been a WalkThrus setting since 2020. WalkThrus have recently published a book specifically for students and parents on understanding how we learn as well as strategies for effective learning / revision. We will be holding two evenings where we will go through strategies for supporting your child in their learning, revision techniques and preparation for exams. The dates for your diaries are: Wednesday 2nd October 6-7pm for parents of pupils in Key Stage 3. This session will focus on how to support your child in their learning. Wednesday 9th October 6-7pm for parents of pupils in Key Stage 4 and 5. This session will focus on revision techniques and preparation for examinations. YEAR 9 COUNTY CUP CHAMPIONS A fantastic result for the Year 9 boys winning 2-1 in extra time against a tough Branston Community Academy team! Outstanding performances throughout the team and first time winning the Boys County Cup since Mr Andersen was a student here!

EMOTIONAL LITERACY SUPPORT ASSISTANT Provides support for individuals and small groups experiencing anxiety, anger and low self esteem, confidence and resilience. ELSA is aimed at enabling students to develop their emotional regulation and coping strategies. If you feel your child would benefit from this support, please contact your childs Head of Year for a referral.

FIRST DAY BACK SEPTEMBER 2024 Everyone here at Sir William Robertson Academy is so excited for our new school year and cannot wait to welcome our Year 7s on Wednesday 4th September and all other years on Thursday 5th September. This is going to be a wonderful year here at the school with so much planned to enrich and educate our students. A final reminder of the changes to our Uniform Policy, this week, with the expectation that students should have a waterproof, outside coat if necessary and that hoodies are no longer allowed onsite at all. Skirts must be worn at knee length and must be fully pleated – tailored trousers are absolutely fine provided they are loose around the ankle. All socks must be black. Any additional piercings to the stud allowed in each lobe must have silicone / plastic retainers. Please contact your child's Head of Year, today, if any financial barriers still exist to these changes. We can't wait to greet your children this week. It's going to be a fantastic term!
